Hi there! If you’ve checked out this page, it means you’ve decided to meet the authors of the Emotorbicycle.com project. Basically, this site is the brainchild of two different people, David and Ben, united by one idea, namely electric scooters. We created it for one simple reason. As developing connoisseurs in electric scooters, learning this wonderful world, and studying new products on the market, we found that objective, detailed, really important information in this area is catastrophically scarce. Mostly, you come across opinions that are too subjective or not extensive enough, and it seems to us that people just need to know what we know.
Fueled by the encouragement of friends and family (apparently, they were fed up with our endless explanations on the subject), we decided to create a resource that would be interesting and understandable to a wide range of people, from advanced riders to beginners. We write articles explaining the nuances, safety issues, and technical aspects. And, of course, we will also help you choose the most suitable, not just the most popular product today.
So, meet David and Ben.
Meet the Emotorbicycle.com team
David Barnes
My name is David Barnes, and I am the creator of the idea for this resource. That’s what everyone insisted, although I have difficulty remembering who suggested the idea first.
My adoration for electric scooters doesn’t go back too far; it doesn’t go back to childhood, although that’s where my fascination with speed and tricks started when I first got on rollerblades (at age 6). I grew up in a simple suburb just outside New York City, and means of transportation like bikes, skateboards, or rollerblades were quite commonplace for us. Until about 15 years old when I started getting into skateboarding with a professional interest.
My education has nothing to do with what I do today, but I think it’s worth bragging that I graduated (albeit barely) from the New York Institute of Technology. I was racing my bike and skateboarding, competing in local competitions, and winning places all this time. Still, I became increasingly interested in the technical side of things (which is probably why I went to such a university).
Electric scooters aren’t exactly new (first mention dates back to 1860, can you imagine?), but ever since they started gaining popularity (in 2010), I’ve been fully dedicated to learning about them, consulting with friends, participating in online forums, giving my opinion, until a bit later I met Ben, a crazy enthusiast like myself. Together, we started a small business selling and renting e-scooters, which brings me joy to this day.
Now, I want to share my experience with a larger audience.
Ben Wallace
My name is Ben Wallace, and I don’t have a colorful life story for you. Besides the fact that I traveled a lot after high school with tents and got into mountain biking, there’s not much to tell. It’s all pretty ordinary, somehow.
Until I became penniless and returned to my hometown near New York City, where I started working as a sales assistant at a large electrical store. Yes, you wouldn’t be wrong in assuming that I ended up in the electric scooter department, where David often came in. We talked, discussed models and their pros and cons, became friends, and at some point thought, “What the hell? We know this stuff better than anyone else!”.
As Dave said, we opened our store pretty soon (in 2017). I married a beautiful girl, and now I have two tomboyish 6 and 4-year-olds running around my yard. It’s not hard to guess that I forgot about mountain biking forever. “Safety first!” my wife says, and I agree. I’ll be writing about this often since I’m now the editor-in-chief and co-writer of our joint project (by the way, I’m the editor because Dave is a lousy writer. Ha-ha! Just kidding).
Anyway, I wanted to say that I would be happy to share my experience and knowledge with you with my admiration for electric scooters.
Why you should trust us
The main reason to trust our general opinion on electric scooters is our special passion for them, based on years of experience in testing and everyday use. We scrutinize every model we write about, test it for a long time, and remain objective. Understanding the inexperience of our in-store customers, we will tell you about things that users have been proven not to consider before purchasing this type of vehicle. We don’t write promotional reviews. We just believe in what we do!
